Hi! My name is Katie "Spud" Marshaus and I work at SVdP Camp Ozanam! I have the energy of our campers and love to be outside. My faith is a large aspect of my life and I love being able to share the excitement and passion I have for religion with our campers. I am a big fan of singing and dancing, especially to camp songs. I LOVE potatoes!
SPUD, WHY DO YOU WORK AT CAMP?
I work at camp for the campers. Throughout activities, meals, chapels, and songs, I strive to put a smile on each camper's face while reminding them of the many blessings God has provided. I work at camp as a way to give our campers the best week of their summer. Camp is the perfect outlet for me as I thrive on sharing my faith with others and love doing activities outside. I especially love being able to show our campers that God can be found all throughout camp, be it swimming, archery, or crafting. I enjoy being able to serve as a role model for children of all ages and hope to provide them with goals and aspirations as they grow up. The staff family formed through working at camp is a force to be reckoned with. Working for camp is truly the best "job" in the world!!
FAVORITE CAMP TRADITION
One of my favorite camp traditions is taking the Adventure Campers on the canoe trip. The campers get to learn how to ride in a canoe and have to work together to steer and avoid the obstacles along the river. It is so rewarding to see the bonding between the campers as they learn to pitch their tents and roast marshmallows over a camp fire. The campers always have a blast at the swinging bridge and the splash park upon finishing their canoe journey.
FAVORITE CAMPFIRE RECIPE
Campfire potatoes!! I can also make a mean s'more!
FAVORITE CAMP SONG
Jesus Jive (especially the pancake version) "mmmm syrup!"
MEMORABLE CAMPER QUOTE
"I ate my snap!" - Jaelyn
FAVORITE CAMP MEMORY
One of my many favorite moments at camp was the OZ 500. The specs had set out a beautiful oval course marked with bright orange flags for the campers to pull each other around in their race cars (boxes decorated and pulled with a jump rope). When the whistle blew, the campers booked it full speed ahead... in the wrong direction! Rather than race around the marked course, the campers headed a ways away towards the sheep pen! The counselors were all hysterically laughing and calling for the campers to turn around and come back to the marked course. Let's just say the final times were a little longer for that race.
